Alliance Bank Timeless Points Redemption Program Is Ridiculous

If you have been following my blog(s), you will know that I’ll be flying off to Europe and then to USA soon to attend my son’s Master Degree Convocation at an Ivy League University. And in my article titled Enrich Miles Sales is Fantastic with 5X Reward Points Credit Cards, I mentioned I managed to get 2 Business Class tickets to Europe because Malaysia Airlines was having a 50% Sale :) In the same article I also mentioned that I’ll be flying to Europe with American Airlines where we can redeem their ticket(s) with our Enrich Miles; but I did not to so. Click the link below to read more and see how I “earned” 30.88% cash back from using my Maybank Visa Infinite:

Enrich Miles Sale Is Fantastic with Credit Cards that Earn You 5X Reward Points.

Recently I published another where I mentioned I earned FREE 15,000 Enrich Miles for buying American Airlines tickets. This article may benefit those of you who are flying to several domestic destinations in USA. By booking directly with American Airlines online using the Multi-City booking feature, you may save some money instead of taking say Malaysia Airlines return KL/Los Angeles and then purchase separate American Airlines tickets for USA domestic flights. Click the link below and you may just save some money:

I Earned FREE 15,000 Frequent Flyer Airmiles (Enrich Miles) for Purchasing American Airlines Tickets that Earn Enrich Miles too.

And before I fly off, I would like to share with you guys about Alliance Bank Timeless Points. A member at LYN posted that we now need 43,900 Timeless Points to redeem a RM100 cash voucher. So, I went and checked and true enough, Alliance has inflated the points required to redeem stuff by almost 100%!!!

I have updated 2 of my previous articles to reflect Alliance Bank current redemption program and they are:

Visa Infinite – Alliance Bank vs Maybank vs UOB

The Best Top 10 Credit Cards in Malaysia 2014

With the 100% increase, the Alliance Bank Visa Infinite is no longer attractive for both local (2X) and overseas (5X) spending. Moreover, I have shown you guys that my Alliance VI overseas conversion rate was higher than my Maybank Visa Infinite, click below link to learn more about which credit card is the best for overseas transactions:

The Best Credit Cards for Overseas Transactions

Having said the above, the only consolation is that Alliance Bank maintained the Enrich Miles redemption at 6000 Timeless Points = 1000 Enrich Miles.

However, if you want UNLIMITED FREE entries to to airport lounge worldwide, the Alliance Bank Privilege Banking Visa Infinite is second to none because it is FREE FOR LIFE :) And with Alliance Bank new redemption program, I guess the Alliance Bank Visa Infinite card is “useless” and only good for airport lounge access.

For frequent overseas travelers, the card to get is the Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX Reserve and Visa Infinite Combo. Both these cards will earn you a FREE Business Class ticket with Malaysia Airlines or Singapore Airlines faster than any other credit card in the world. Actually, the Maybank AMEX Reserve is fantastic too for local spending as you will earn 5X Treats Points for every local RM1 spent. Click the link below to learn more:

Credit Card Balance Transfer Plans 2014 – Best 0% Interest Rate Loan

I just republished my article on Credit Card Balance Transfer Plans to show what are the current plans available in the market.

Currently the banks offering 0% Balance Transfer Plan are AEON Card Services, Affin Bank, RHB Bank, Hong Leong Bank and Public Bank. Maybank does advertise that they are offering 0% BT for 12 months BUT that’s bull shit because you will be imposed a 3% upfront fee.

Other Banks’ Balance Transfer Plans mentioned in the article are Allaince Bank and AmBank.

No two Balance Transfer Plans are the same as each bank will have their own set of Terms and Conditions.

For those of you who are new to Balance Transfer Plans and those of you wanting to know what the banks are currently offering, click the link below to learn more on Credit Card Balance Transfer Plans:

The Best Credit Card Balance Transfer Plan 2014

In this article I will show you the following:

1. Different types of Balance Transfer Plans, i.e. True 0% BT Plans, Upfront Interest BT Plans and Reducing Interest BT Plans.

2. Current 0% Balance Transfer Plans and my comments.

3. And what you really need to know about Balance Transfer Plans.

Now, if you are stubborn and not wanting to read my above mentioned article and go ahead and perform a Balance Transfer, I have a tip for you – DO NOT USE THE CREDIT CARD WHICH YOU HAVE PERFORMED BALANCE TRANSFER WITH UNTIL YOU HAVE SETTLE THE DEBT IN FULL. This warning is most appropriate for Balance Transfer Plans that do not create a NEW ACCOUNT for the Balance Transfer.

It’ll be Stupid Of Me Not To Use My Maybank 2 Cards Premier

Someone at LYN mentioned that one is not so smart if one was to pay the RM800 annual fee for the MBB 2 Cards Premier Amex Reserve or spending RM80K per annum for its waiver.

I thought I share with you guys here my reply (edited):

For the first year, the Maybank 2 Cards Premier annual fee is waived PLUS we get FREE 10,000 Treats Points for every card including supplementary cards to offset GST (the smart ones will pay the miserable GST and convert the FREE Treats Points to Airmiles). And for those not willing or too freaking stingy to contribute to the well being of the nation by paying the miserable RM50 tax per card, go get Debit Cards!

Now, if one spends less RM10K a year with the MBB2 Cards Premier AND did not utilize the 5 FREE airport lounge access overseas (this statement not applicable for our local airports because there are several Platinum FREE FOR LIFE  credit cards that offer FREE entries to our local airport lounges) and decides to keep the MBB 2 Cards Premier after the first year anniversary and pay the RM800 annual fee, I guess I will agree that he/she is not so smart.

But here is my case where it’ll be stupid of me not using the Maybank 2 Cards Premier.

1. In my article My Credit Cards 2014 (click the link below), you will note that I mentioned that I have Alliance Privilege Banking Visa Infinite which is FREE FOR LIFE (non PB got to spend RM30K to get auto annual fee waiver).

http://generationsxyz.blogspot.com/2014/01/my-credit-cards-and-bragging-rights-2014.html

2. I do spend substantial sum on overseas transactions. Let’s say RM100K for discussion sake.

a. If I use my FREE FOR LIFE Alliance PB VI, I will earn 500,000 Rewards Points which I can then convert to 83,000 Enrich Miles. (Can’t get a FREE return Business Class ticket to Europe unless there is a Sale but can get one to Australia).

b. If I were to use the Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX Reserve or VI, I will earn 500K Treats Points which I can convert to 111,000 Enrich Miles (FREE return ticket to Europe on Business Class).

Difference in FREE Enrich Miles between Alliance Bank VI and Maybank 2 Cards Premier is 28000 Enrich Miles! Over 3 years, the difference will ballooned to 84000 Enrich Miles [can get FREE return Business Class ticket to Melbourne worth RM4920 (if MAS is having 50% Enrich Sale, this amount will double)].

Above is only one part of the benefit of Maybank 2 Cards Premier over Alliance Bank Visa infinite and UOB Visa Infinite. FYI, I can save money by using my Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX or VI versus Alliance or UOB VI. Click the link below to my article The Best Credit Card for Overseas Transactions 2014; and from the table I prepared, you will note that Alliance VI and UOB VI overseas conversion rate can be more than 1% higher than MBB VI!!! So for RM100K spending, that’s RM1K savings simply by me using the MBB VI.

http://generationsxyz.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-best-credit-card-for-overseas.html

And with the introduction of Maybank 2 Cards Premier, some of us at LYN concluded so far than the Maybank 2 Cards AMEX Reserve overseas conversion rate is lower than MBB VI – which means we can save more. Click the link below to my Comprehensive Review of the MBB 2 Cards Premier to see difference in overseas exchange rate between MBB AMEX and MBB VI.

http://generationsxyz.blogspot.com/2014/03/maybank-2-cards-premier-comprehensive.html

And in the above said article, I did conclude that the Maybank 2 Cards Premier is good for those who do spend substantial sum and more importantly wanting Airmiles. For those who spend less than RM30K per year and not into Airmiles, better to go with cash back credit cards.

Last but not least, there is another reason why some may want the Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX RESERVE besides wanting Enrich Miles – it’s the 50% discount at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. And if Maybank was to extend this promo until end of 2015, those who frequent Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur and dine at Lafite in particular would be more than happy to pay the RM800 annual fee. Actually, if one gives the MBB 2 AMEX Reserve supp to his/her spouse, and total 4 guest but split the bill, the savings for a night at Lafite is more than the RM800 annual fee. So, I can tell you those who can qualify for the MBB 2 Cards Premier or AMEX Plat (without Maybank Logo) but don’t go get them and go to Lafite with a guest (more than twice before June 2014 and maybe beyond that if MBB extend the promo for MBB 2 Cards Premier) and pay using other credit cards that don’t give them discount are the ones who are not so smart, hahahaha.

Highest Fixed Deposit Promotions Interest Rates April May and June 2014

I just updated my Fixed Deposit Page at my main blog. To find out which banks are offering highest and best interest rates for Fixed Deposit for April, May and June 2014, please click on the link below:

http://generationsxyz.blogspot.com/p/fixed-deposit.html

Check out OCBC 12 months and 18 months Straight Forward FD which do not require the stupid CASA thingy.

And don’t be mislead by Maybank claiming that their Step Up FD 12 month Promo is offering 3.88% effective interest rate.

Other Banks’ Fixed Deposit Promotions mentioned in my FD Page are from Affin Bank, AmBank Top Bundle, UOB Bank, Public Bank, Bank Rakyat and Hong Leong Bank.

And in my FD Page, I have tips as to how to maximize earning higher effective interest rates for FD promos requiring you to deposit x% into CASA, especially on OCBC FD deals.

Hong Leong Bank Visa Infinite Credit Card Review

Hong Leong Bank has finally launched their Visa Infinite, not one but 2 versions.

However, you better read the terms and conditions of the Hong Leong Bank Visa Infinite benefits, else you will be pissed of big time especially in regards to the FREE airport lounge access. I got no idea if the HLB VI only allows FREE entry to KLIA Plaza Premium  Lounge or airport lounges worldwide. But it makes no difference to me because one is a fool to use the HLB Visa Infinite for their expenses and earn less Enrich Miles compared to other credit cards which includes an Entry Level Gold credit card.

To learn more about the Hong Leong Bank Visa Infinite benefits versus Alliance Bank Visa Infinite vs Maybank Visa Infinite vs UOB Visa Infinite including versus the Entry Level Maybankard 2 Card Gold AMEX, click on the link or image below:

Hong Leong Bank Visa Infinite – First and Last Look.

If you don’t read my article mentioned above, you will regret later knowing that  others only need to spend 50% less in order to earn the same Enrich Miles compared to the Hong Leong Bank Visa Infinite to redeem FREE Malaysia Airlines ticket.  And we don’t need to spend RM100K yearly to be eligible for FREE entries to airport lounges worldwide.

My Credit Cards and My Bragging Rights 2014

The time has come once again for me to bore you with My Bragging Rights and show off My Credit Cards and Debit Cards Collection for 2014.

In this article, besides posting my entire active cards collection, I also did a brief review on the Alliance Platinum Visa, Alliance Visa Infinite, CIMB Visa Infinite & World MasterCard, Citibank Platinum Visa, Hong Leong Bank Platinum MasterCard, HSBC Visa Signature, Maybankard 2 Cards, Maybank Visa Infinite, OCBC Titanium MasterCard, RHB Platinum Visa, UOB Preferred Platinum Visa and UOB Privilege Banking Visa Infinite credit cards, and as to how they benefited me. And guess how many of my credit cards are in my Top 10 Best Credit Card 2014 Malaysia list?

One of the benefit of me having so many credit cards and combined with my wife’s own principal credit cards, we get to bring my entire family into the KLIA and LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge for FREE :)

In my article, I have announced that his is the last time I’ll be posting my cards collection as I don’t think I’ll be able to qualify for any more Premier Credit Cards.

And THANKS TO YOU, I have another Bragging Right, i.e. I have more than 1K Likes here and more than 1.5M page views when I combined my blogs. However, according to Alexa, my generationsxyz.blogspot site ranking in Malaysia is pathetic at Top 18K, hahaha. I doubt my site ranking in Malaysia will ever be in the Top 1K as my articles only interest those who have similar intellectual level as me. There are not that many of us who are in this elite range who practice critical reading and analyze info available in detail.
